A fridge door that opens the wrong way: a small fix that eases daily life

The problem
A customer in Birchington finds getting around and handling heavy things harder than they used to. Their fridge-freezer door was hinged on the side that suited the old kitchen layout, not the way they use the room now. Something as ordinary as getting the milk out meant a bit of a manoeuvre every time.
What we did
Many fridge-freezers are designed so the door hinges can be moved to the opposite side. We took the door off, shifted the hinge fittings across, and rehung it so it sits square and the seal closes properly. A door that hangs even slightly out of true can leave a gap, so we checked it before we left.
The outcome
The door now opens back against the wall, so reaching inside is much easier. It was a short job, but for a household where every small struggle counts, it takes one irritation out of the day.
Before and after

Looking after older neighbours
A lot of the jobs that help most are tiny ones: handles that grip better, doors that open the other way, a rail where there wasn't one. If someone you know in Broadstairs, Birchington or around Thanet could use a hand with a fiddly fix, get in touch at broadstairshandyman.co.uk.
